Is Cashmere Kind? How to Choose The Kindest Cashmere
What is the kindest cashmere?
Right out of the gate, we want to assure you the Loop Cashmere takes animal welfare extremely seriously and we work with partners who maintain only the highest and most ethical standards and practices when it comes to looking after the animals in the supply chain. As with all areas of fashion, there are varying brands, options and price points for you to choose from. Having a little understanding of the context of those options can help inform you to make the purchase you feel comfortable with.
Ethical cashmere vs unethical cashmere - what is the difference?
If we take animal welfare in isolation from the other ethical issues surrounding the fashion industry, when it comes to cashmere, it is all about the quality of life given to the goats whose fibre we use.
Ethical cashmere - Doing things the right way
In springtime, the goats naturally shed their wool as the temperatures begin to rise again. It is during this time that ethically-minded producers can comb out the soft, downy wool from the main outer coat, in such a way that doesn't hurt the goats and leaves them with a thinned, but still substantial coat, ready for spring/summer, just as they would be naturally. Helping this natural process along with a comb is the only ethical way of obtaining cashmere from the livestock and as such, it is the practice that Loop insists on.
